This will probably come as no surprise to many of you who know me well. I have been studying about personalities a lot over the past ten years. The other day I picked up a yet another book from the library. It got me thinking once again about the eclectic mix of friends who surround me…and one in particular.
My friend, Melissa, is truly my soul mate. We’ve only known each other less than a year. But, it seems like we have been friends since childhood. One afternoon I received a phone call from her and she said that God had given her a vision about me. So, I asked her to share it.
She said, “You know those games that you play at the county fair where the little mole pops his head through the hole and the object is to smack it back into the hole with the mallet?”
“Yes?” I replied.
“Well, God showed me that vision as I was praying for you. You are my ‘whack-a-mole’ friend…always popping your head up out of a new hole. And I am the one sitting back whacking you with the mallet saying, ‘not that one.’”
I laughed because I knew she was right. There are times we do butt heads. I get frustrated with the way she methodically moves through life as if she will never move that next step forward. And she gets frustrated with the way I seem to always have my own agenda and seemingly not waiting on God.
We compliment each other. She keeps me slowed down a bit and I entice her to move that next step forward sometimes. And we both have come to an understanding that we wait on God and listen in our own ways. Never will either of us ever fit into the other’s mold. When I think she is taking way too much time to think over the next move, I remind myself that God created her to move with earthly subtly. And I pray that when she is frustrated with me, she remembers that he created me to move like the wind. He gives each of us our assignments accordingly.
Celebrating our differences is the key.
